Gilson, who joined the Demons from Thurgoona this season, picked up three votes in the last round to finish on 17.
He finished three clear of Bullioh’s Clint Ried, who missed the last round with a neck injury.
Tumbarumba’s Matt Molkentin (13), Corryong’s Evan Nicholas (11) and Cudgewa’s John Deery (10) rounded out the top five in the count at Corryong.
Gilson started his career in the Ovens and Murray with Albury and North Albury before heading to the district leagues, where he had stints with Culcairn and Thurgoona.
Cudgewa coach Bill Deery and his full-forward Brendan McEvoy tied on 66 majors for the league’s goalkicking award.
Border-Walwa’s Sophie Greenhill won the A-grade netball award by three votes from Federal’s Kristin McKimmie, while Corryong’s Tahnee Thorpe took out the goal shooting.
Federal won the champion club award.
