EVEN though there was to be a meeting of the O and M Board of Directors to decide the final destination of the grand final, it was a foregone conclusion that the pro Albury-Wodonga board had no intention of changing to Wangaratta.

You would also think, that, by some of the tunnel vision comments in The Border Mail, that other areas do not participate in the various types of sport played in the area. How narrow-minded!
It is also a foregone conclusion that the three most financial clubs that have headed the ladder for the entire season, probably the two that have dominated the league for the past six years will play off, although Lavington will certainly have a very strong case against that happening.
The most disturbing part of the article (Locked In) written by Jake Bourke in Tuesday’s paper, were these two sentences and I quote, “The board felt Lavington best suited the mix of clubs likely to feature”.
“As it stands the likelihood is most grand finals will be dominated by teams from Albury-Wodonga.”
What an insult to the other clubs that have kept this great league together for more than 100 years.
One can only assume that the board considers that clubs outside Albury-Wodonga, perhaps with the exception of one Wangaratta team, will never challenge the financial might of the Albury-Wodonga area.
Or does this mean that within the next decade we could see just six teams in the league, and perhaps the board thinks it should be renamed “The Albury-Wodonga Football League” and the rest of you can, as they say, “go fly a kite”.
