As the inquest in Wodonga adjourned after seven days of evidence, coroner John Olle thanked the families of Katie Peters and Steven Kadar.
Mr Olle acknowledged in court the inquest had presented “a tough set of days” for them.
The Harrietville fire had been sparked by lightning on January 21 and lasted 55 days, burning 37,000 hectares.
The inquest will resume in Melbourne in October, with three to four more witnesses, including Victorian Fire Services Commissioner Craig Lapsley, to be called.
