Shane and Sharon Potocnik left for Brisbane last night for the Mystery Box car rally.
Their “The Sputniks” team raise money for the Cancer Council.
“Going in a fundraising car rally was something that was on Shane’s bucket-list and when we found this one raises money for the Cancer Council it ticked all the boxes for us,” Mrs Potocnik said.
“Shane’s mother recently come through a pretty big cancer scare, thanks to all the developments made through cancer research.”
The Sputniks are one of 50 teams in the rally that starts Saturday and runs until Wednesday.
The teams raise at least $3000 to enter.
A mock auction tomorrow decides which team gets which vehicle.
“The two parts of the mystery are you don’t know which car you will get and you don’t know where you’re going.”
They are given maps each day with the destination and new challenges.
“There is a dress-up night where the theme is anything, so we are going Hawaiian,” Mrs Potocnik said.
The Sputniks have already raised their $3000 and hope to make it to $5000.
“The biggest challenge is packing for different weather and camping the whole way,” Mrs Potocnik said.
Mr Potocnik was more concerned about what car he would be driving.
