Amy Hudson will line up for Wodonga Raiders this weekend in B grade against Yarrawonga to mark the 100-game milestone.
The goalshooter resisted her granddad’s plans to play at crosstown rival Bulldogs and joined the Raiders at 13.
“There was no under-16s then so I went straight into C grade,” Hudson said.
“It was very physical and very different to what I had been playing at Kelly Park and the Wodonga Leisure Centre.
“I just ran heaps.
“Pop wanted me to play at Wodonga but dad is a Raiders’ man and he wasn’t having any of that.”
Hudson said there was a good spirit at the club despite a winless A grade year.
“This season has probably been my best, I’ve moved into B grade and played too many to go back and play finals in C grade,” she said.
“It has gone so fast and with at least a couple of teams in finals there is a positive feel around the club.
“I’m sure mum has something planned for Saturday but I’ll be treating it as just another game.”
Raiders president Leonie Mooney said she too sensed a change in fortune.
“It’s a great milestone for Amy — she is one of the younger girls to get there, often doubling up in senior games on the one day,” she said.
“Haylee O’Neill had her 150th game a couple of weeks back and we have had a number of our under-16s celebrate 50 games this year.
“We are a very young club, have the under-16s and third grade looking at finals and the A grade has closed the gap on the opposition.”
