The authority issued a statement this week stating Baranduda residents had reported ongoing offensive odour impacts from local industry and it issued a pollution abatement notice.
“Residents have a right to live in a community that’s not impacted by the activities of industry,” an authority spokesperson said.
“The Environment Protection Authority has investigated several possible odour sources, one of which was the Wodonga saleyards, owned by Reg-ional Infrastructure.
“It requires the operator to modify waste management practices, including management of cattle manure, spent feed and truck wash waste, so offensive odours aren’t discharged beyond the boundary of the premises by September 8.”
Palisade Investments bought the Wodonga saleyards business in 2008 from Wodonga Council, with associated company Regional Infrastructure operating them on lease until the replacement yards are finished.
The $20 million replacement saleyards at Barnawartha are due to be completed early next year.
