Mr Delgado visited La Trobe University, Wilson Transformer Company, and Wodonga Council with member for Indi Cathy McGowan yesterday.

Ms McGowan hopes the visit, which continues today, will open new opportunities for businesses.

She said agriculture and manufacturing were two sectors where the Border could benefit.

“It’s been very productive,” Ms McGowan said.

“We share a lot in common both in learning and production in agriculture.

“It’s about building opportunities in trade and investment in South America and Argentina and raising awareness of people in North East Victoria and what we’re doing.”

Mr Delgado said the visit had “painted a very interesting picture” of what could be done here.

“It’s useful for us as diplomats to get to know the country,” he said.

“There is some very good manufacturing being done in Australia, irrespective of the comments regarding the struggling manufacturing sector.

“There’s a niche there for the right product at the right price at the right quality.”

He will visit Myrtleford Butter and Australian Textile Mills with Ms McGowan today.
