David Young met his life-long idol Wood, who played Sgt Tom Croydon in television show Blue Heelers, which ran from 1993 to 2006.
Mr Young has watched all 510 episodes of the television series and his mother Pauline Young said he has been a fan of Wood since the beginning.
“He’s been a fan of John since Blue Heelers started,” she said
“He’d watch it day and night until 4am, or until someone hurt one of the police officers, then he’d go off and get upset.”
Mr Young would often tell his parents that he would ring Sgt Croydon if they upset him and has always believed he would one day meet him.
“He’d go down to the Wodonga police station whenever someone broke the law and we’d get calls saying ‘your son is here again’ and he’d tell them to call John Wood,” Mrs Young said.
Wood said it was a pleasure to meet Mr Young and even re-enacted one of his signature catch phrases for him.
“David, my office,” Mr Wood said.
Mr Wood will be performing a lead role in Heroes tonight.
The show is being staged from 7.30pm at The Cube, Wodonga.
