AN Albury group pushing for exclusion zones near women’s health clinics throughout NSW will launch a new petition today seeking state government support.

Albury Right to Privacy intially tried to get Albury Council to impose an exclusion zone around the Englehardt Street Fertility Control Clinic.
But a petition signed by 5500 people failed to sway the council, which said there was nothing it could do as only the state government had the power to pass such laws.
The petition aimed to rid Englehardt Street of protesters from the group the Helpers of God’s Precious Infants, who gather outside the clinic every Thursday.
Albury Right to Privacy now believes the only way forward is to campaign for statewide exclusion zones.
The hope is to get 100,000 signatures over an eight-week campaign.
Volunteers will collect signatures from NSW residents at several locations this morning, including the Olive Street entrance to Myer Centrepoint.
“The front leadership for the medical privacy petition has been transferred to Sydney, as this is now a NSW statewide concern,” privacy group spokesman Pieter Mourik said yesterday.
“It will be led by two women’s health advocacy groups — Women’s Health NSW, which has 22 centres, and Family Planning NSW.”
Support from other organisations and politicians has also been sought.
