Miley Cyrus's Wrecking Ball was the big winner, taking out the Video of the Year award. In one of the few surprising moments she chose to have a young homeless man accept the prize in her place to raise awareness of homelessness. Iggy Azalea and Sia missed out in that category, but Azalea did pick up a prize in the Best Pop Video category, where her collaboration with Ariana Grande on Problem won.

5 Seconds of Summer also won the Best Lyric Video prize for their song Don't Stop.
Ed Sheeran won Best Male Video (for Sing) and Katy Perry Best Female Video (for Dark Horse) and Lorde picked up Best Rock Video (for the rather unrocking but otherwise excellent Royals).
