Yesterday, the year 6 students of Wodonga West Primary School got to experience the thrill of a university graduation as part of a “Check It Out Day” program at Charles Sturt University.
They checked out various workshops around the campus and finished with a mini-graduation to celebrate being there.
Event co-ordinator Illena Young said the day was about raising awareness of higher education among young people.
“It’s mainly about the kids who believe they may not achieve higher education. This can be because they are the first in their family to go, or the cost,” she said.
The program encourages children to be the best they can be.
“It was pretty exciting. It gives me the feeling I want to graduate when I’m older,” Mikayla Ivic, 12, said.
Heath Manglesdorf, also 12, said: “There were plenty of places here where I can do courses for what I want to do, which is writing”.
The students listened to a speech from CSU lecturer Dr Angela Fenton, who reminded them to always keep trying and to always use their imagination, before receiving certificates.
