COLLINGWOOD premiership captain Nick Maxwell will attend the opening of a revamped sports bar at Albury’s SS&A Club on Friday.

The Locker Room, in the club’s former bingo area, has a TAB service with seven large-screen televisions, an even bigger main screen and a bar area.

Its opening coincides with the start of the AFL finals with Maxwell to be part of the opening night festivities.

The Magpies’ 2010 premiership skipper retired after a season-ending ankle injury in July.

SS&A Club chief executive Tim Leveseque said it was an ideal use for the ground-floor of the club.

“Our aim is to make it a destination when all major sporting events are on,” he said.

“The AFL finals start next week, then there is the spring racing carnival, the end of the V8s season and the start of cricket, which will go through to the world cup in February-March.

“It was a perfect spot to theme up.”

The Locker Room walls will be covered with large historic photographs featuring the MCG and one of a 1920s Wangaratta Cup finish.

Recently retired Brisbane Lions star Jonathan Brown will be in the Locker Room on September 19 before an Albury Tigers luncheon in the lead-up to the Ovens and Murray league grand final two days later.

The lunch is being held in conjunction with the James McQuillan Future Fund.

The Brisbane triple premiership player will draw a raffle for two AFL grand final tickets.

A replay of the O and M grand final will be shown on the main screen about 7pm after the game.

The SS&A Club, as the league’s major sponsor, will also host the Morris Medal count on September 15.
