A DAYTIME home robbery has shattered a dream for two Wodonga sisters and their children after $7000 in savings for their first family holiday was stolen.
Emily Pearce, 21, said heartless thieves also stole valuable jewellery, including her daughter’s 9 carat gold bangle engraved with “baby’s first diamond”, during the August 23 robbery.
“It’s just horrible; we had been saving so hard and this was going to be our first family holiday together,” Ms Pearce said.
“It is so devastating to think that someone has taken this away from us.”
Ms Pearce was in Melbourne on the weekend of the robbery at her Wattle Court home, where she lives with her 17-month-old daughter Isabella.
Her mother was babysitting Isabella and, after going down the street, they returned to find the place trashed and valuables stolen.
The robbery was reported to police, who are investigating.
It is believed thieves entered through Isabella’s bedroom window, which was shut but not locked.
Ms Pearce said the $7000 was going towards accommodation, travel and spending money for an eight-night getaway at Lakes Entrance in November.
“We are hoping to still do something because I don’t want to take this away from my daughter and nephew,” she said.
Ms Pearce said she had felt safe keeping the money in a hiding spot in her bedroom.
“I was holding onto my money and my sister’s, as she has a hard time saving,” she said.
“The money was in a silver make-up pouch.”
Ms Pearce hopes she can recover her jewellery.
“My daughter’s bangle was very precious,” she said.
Other items of jewellery stolen included a silver Guess watch, a silver chain necklace and a silver ring with black and white stones in the shape of a belt buckle.
