More than 30 tinnies and 150 people are expected to take to the water at Corryong on February 21 for a 750-kilometre journey to Echuca-Moama.
A different route is taken each year — this year they went from Mildura to the mouth of the Murray at Goolwa.
The Murray Meander raises funds for breast cancer and prostate cancer support services.
It is organised by the Horizon Committee in Echuca, and since 2006, many Murray Charity Meander participants have travelled the length of the river.
In February, the flotilla will leave Bringenbrong Bridge for the eight-day journey along the river with overnight stops at Walwa, Lake Hume, Corowa, Yarrawonga, Tocumwal, Mathoura and, finally, Echuca-Moama.
Event co-ordinator Dick Phillips is urging more people to sign up.
“We’ve got about 24 teams signed up so far, and we’d like to see up to 30 to 35,” he said.
The event’s main fund-raising goes towards providing oncology nursing scholarships to students — with about 60 funded so far — and the Otis Foundation, which provides housing for breast cancer patients.
The communities where the teams stop during their journey also benefit, with all supplies, including food, bought locally.
