Transcendence: photographs by David Stephenson, a Monash Gallery of Art travelling exhibition, is the artist’s first major Australian exhibition for a decade.
American-born Stephenson, who has lived in Australia since 1982, is billed as one of the most significant contemporary photographers in the country.
Gallery curator Simone Nolan said the exhibition was unique in that it was travelling to many regions.
“David’s works are collected all over the world, including many significant Australian galleries such as the National Gallery,” she said.
Ms Nolan said she was “very moved” by Stephenson’s works.
The exhibition’s curator Stella Loftus-Hills said Stephenson’s pictures were “remarkable” in the way they could “transport you somewhere else”.
Monash Gallery of Art curator Stephen Zagala will be at Arts Space Wodonga for a curator’s talk on Saturday at 10.30am.
This will be an opportunity to learn more about extra details on the exhibition and a chance for budding and experienced photographers to examine the works.
The exhibition will run from Friday until Saturday, September 27.
