The defending champions started their run a few weeks ago and continue to add new and old faces to their squad.
After denying Boomers the league title a week earlier, they put the cleaners through an undermanned Melrose on Sunday.
Chelsea Blisset is back from Albury United and was one of four on the scoresheet as City shared the goals around in its 5-0 belting of Melrose.
THE Border has played a role in the crowning of the women’s State Knockout Cup champion.
FC Bulleen Lions won their first crown with a 2-0 win over South at Lakeside Stadium on Sunday, capping a meteoric rise for the Premier League club — which made its debut in the top flight last season.
Bulleen beat Canberra in a penalty shoot-out in a pre-season competition at the Border’s LaTrobe University in February, along the way beating Albury United 2-0.
THE surface on the two main grounds at Willow Park on Sunday for the cup quarter finals earned rave reviews, but grounds used for junior games were not so popular.
The surface for the men’s games was smooth and well grassed, perhaps a little too well, given players struggled for traction.
But grounds closer to the creek were uneven at best.
It would have been a tragedy if it had cost a team a win, or a player their season.
ALBURY City fans say the 3-1 scoreline in the cup quarter-final loss to Boomers flattered their team.
The pundits said Boomers were at their clinical and ruthless best, dominating possession and chances.
Melkie Woldemichael, whose pace threatened Albury City’s defence in the last game of the home and away season, scored two, while Andrew Grove got the other.
“We were down 1-0 at half-time but just took our time to convert the chances,” Grove said.
