The small forward/midfielder played every game of his debut season, forming part of a speedy forward line with Dayne Zorko and Josh Green.
The Victorian, who worked on a farm near Terang in Victoria's west before commencing his career, was selected with pick 28 in the national draft. He polled 39 votes, while Bontempelli, who played 16 games, was awarded 38 votes and North Melbourne father-son selection Luke McDonald 32. Lions midfider Jamies Aish nwas fourth with 19 votes.
