WANGARATTA teenagers Sarah Hooper and Isabelle Byrne, both 17, are the final two nominations for the Oven and Murray netball rising star award.
The pair stepped into A grade this year as part of the Magpies’ emphasis on developing their juniors.
Coach Louise Byrne said it was a testament to the policy.
“These two girls have had super years, but then most of our squad was this age, so there are others who have been just as impressive,” she said.
“Sarah shot 19 from 20 in her first A grade game against Corowa-Rutherglen and averaged just three or four misses a game for the season.
“Isabelle jumped from C grade to A grade this year — she is a powerful wing attack who really hits the goal circle.
“Both have stood up really well to the pressure of A grade netball.
“The club is rapt we have two players nominated.”
