Mrs Freeman, 75, was presented with a life membership badge after joining the CWA 60 years ago.
“It took me by surprise and I actually burst into tears,” she said.
“I don’t know how they managed to keep it from me — I am usually onto these kinds of things.”
The retired Albury nurse joined the org-anisation as a junior member with the Walla branch at the age of 15.
“It’s always been about friendship for me,” she said.
Mrs Freeman is the international and publicity officer who has held the positions of branch president, secretary and cultural officer.
Albury branch president Lynette Buck said Mrs Freeman was the fabric that held the group together.
“She has held just about every role within the organisation,” she said.
The association is inviting expressions of interest at a meeting on September 24 to possibly form an evening branch.
The 7.30pm meeting will be held at the CWA rooms at 561 Kiewa Street, Albury.
