The Army 8 Hour Challenge and associated events held on Friday, August 29, raised a total of $53,000 for Albury Legacy and we are extremely grateful for the support provided to us by the Defence Force personnel at Bandiana from the Commandant down to the lowest of ranks and also the civilians and contractors working on the base.
Not only did these soldiers raise this magnificent amount of money but they then turned around the next week and bought Legacy badges on Badge Day and some 30 of them volunteered their time to actually sell badges in the streets of Albury and Wodonga on our behalf.
The support provided by the members of the defence force, which allows Legacy to support the widows and families of past members of the defence force who have given their lives or their health for their country, is most heartening and provides us with willingness to continue in our work looking after the 894 widows and 23 children who rely on Legacy in the Upper Murray Area.
I would also like to thank all those members of the public who supported us on badge day — your support has raised $31,000 to date and we are still counting.
— R.M. (Bob) MAHAFEY,
honorary secretary, Legacy Club of Albury Limited
