NIGEL Robinson said Glenrowan’s premiership was a great reward from humble beginnings two years ago.
“We started down at the North Eastern Hotel where we had a few beers and signed out the back of the pub,” he said.
Robinson also spared a thought for club stalwart Mark “Jacko” Sayers, who lost his short battle with cancer last week, and also key midfielder Al Pike, who ruled himself out on Friday night.
“I said to the boys ‘we’ve got a lot to play for, we don’t just have a cup to play for, we’ve got history, we’ve got supporters, and even Jacko, and I’m just glad the boys realised that and stood up for us,” he said.
“Jacko was a fantastic bloke, his family is Glenrowan through and through and what they’ve done for the club, it’s not going to do a hell of a lot, but to pay them back by getting this premiership — I just wish he was here to see it.
“Al came to the club, had a bad injury before last year, 18 months out of footy and he finally got himself back, got into form, and does his hamstring.
“Any normal bloke would say they’re right — he put his hand up and said he wasn’t 100 per cent and he’d rather see someone who was 100 per cent in the team.
“That’s a credit to himself and he’s a mass-ive part of what happened.”
