MILAWA coach Luke O’Keefe knew he had to change his plan after losing three times to Glenrowan this season.
And for a quarter, it looked like the new tactics would work as the Demons built a 13-point lead before being overrun.
“We started well, the first half was pretty good — we knew any less and we wouldn’t be in the game,” he said.
“We’d thrown everything at them three times and came up short — not far short, but short.
“So we needed to pull something out of the box.”
Despite the defeat, O’Keefe was proud of his players and said the club remained in good shape.
“I can never question our guys’ commitment and hunger,” he said.
“Everything during the week went well, our meeting went well, our start was good, but we just ran out of tickets.
“I never won’t be proud of the Milawa Footy Club, it’s a great place.
“Our club’s in a great place. The netball is strong, the reserves and thirds are coming along well, we had 40-plus guys at training the past 12 weeks.
“We had six or seven miss out on a game in the twos, and we’ve only a couple of travellers.”
