Despite going from a rookie listed player to household Richmond name in 13 matches, Miles says nothing will change heading into next season.
It will be work, work and more work for the determined 23-year-old.
“I’ll have a couple of weeks off,” Miles said.
“I’m in my second week off to kick back and play a bit of golf but I plan on hooking up with Pat Scammell the running coach in Albury again and doing a pre-season with him.
“Then I’m back in Melbourne on November 10 to get back into a massive pre-season.”
Miles averaged 24 possessions a game after breaking into Richmond’s side to play North Melbourne in round 12 and finished the season as one of the AFL’s leading clearance players.
He recently signed a two-year contract and credits Richmond’s coaches and teammates for his development after being delisted by Greater Western Sydney last year.
“I think for me the best part has been learning off the guys who have been at the club for a while,” Miles said.
“You’ve got experienced guys like Chris Newman and then you’ve got the captain Trent Cotchin and Brett Deledio.
“For me it’s being able to learn off them.
“I think I’ve learnt the work rate required to play at the elite level.
“I thought I had it before but seeing how those guys go about it, particularly the leaders and Nathan Foley, it has been the biggest thing for me.”
Miles, who spoke to Victory Lutheran College students in Wodonga yesterday, admitted there had been times when he doubted whether he would get another chance after being cut by the Giants.
“I certainly had a lot of doubts this time last year but I’m very thankful things have turned around,” he said.
“I had that belief I could play at that level.
“In a way I suppose I have surprised myself but on the other hand I always had that believe that I could play well.”
