Clayton Johan, 41, lost his blue staffy, named Storm, after it dived into the Murray River at South Albury on Saturday.
At first he thought the dog had drowned, but now he wonders whether his dog was taken by someone else after he emerged from the river.
Mr Johan said he had jumped into the river to retrieve Storm, but was unable to find him.
“I suffer from a bipolar disorder and I’m depressed all the time,” he said.
“He picked me up.
“He got me out of bed and taking walks down to the river.”
Mr Johan, who is on a pension, bought the dog in Sydney about a year ago.
“I’ve been advertising everywhere, trying to get him back,” he said.
“I’ve been calling the RSPCA every day.
“People are attracted to him because he’s a blue staffy.
“He’s got the best personality and was friendly to everyone.
“I’ve had no luck finding him and it’s come to the point where I’m prepared to give my car as a reward to find my dog.
“It’s all I’ve got.”
Mr Johan said he would be happy to hand over the BA Ford Falcon.
“They can have the car,” he said.
“I’d give them the keys and a big hug and a kiss.”
Mr Johan can be reached on 0420 795 925.
