I AM glad the member for Indi, Cathy McGowan, has put trams on the long-term agenda in Albury-Wodonga with the article “Trams the way to travel” (The Border Mail, September 15).

With the removal of the rail line on High Street and with the station moved to West Wodonga, there is now no public transport from the train station into the centre of the city.
It’s a pity that in the planning for the removal of the level crossing and station moving to West Wod-onga that provision was not made for a tram or light rail.
Now the Wodonga Council is revitalising its city centre, it would also be a good opportunity to have a tram or light rail that could take people from West Wodonga station into the city centre.
It would also be good to have a tram or light rail from Table Top (Ettamogah Pub) through Albury-Thurgoona to Wodonga.
Imagine the tourism potential for such a transport system and the reduction in road traffic.
I commend the member for Indi for putting this on the agenda.
Hopefully, Albury and Wodonga councils, as well as the state and federal governments, will pursue this as a viable option.
