The retired maestro, dubbed the "Little Master", will be inducted as a Bradman Honouree along with former Test captain Steve Waugh at a gala dinner at the SCG on October 29.

Once identified by Sir Donald Bradman as the batsman he most saw himself in, Tendulkar will be on hand to accept the honour at a ground he acknowledges was one of his favourites through his record-breaking career.

The 41-year-old has enjoyed a storied relationship with the SCG during his 200-Test, 24-year international career, scoring three centuries in five Tests, most notably an unbeaten 241 not out in the 2003-04 series against Australia that is widely regarded as one of the finest innings seen at the venue.

On his last visit to the ground in January 2012, he fell short of notching the 100th international century that evaded him that whole summer but still wound up with an average of 157 at the SCG.

His appearance at the annual Bradman Foundation dinner is fitting – the late Australian great famously said in an interview he believed Tendulkar's technique, like no other modern batsman, reminded him of his own. "Now I never saw myself play, but I feel that this fellow is playing much the same as I used to play," Bradman had said.

Waugh, too, joins the list of past honourees such as Dennis Lillee and Mark Taylor. The SCG has been the scene of some of his greatest triumphs, none more so than his unforgettable final-over century in his last Test against England in 2003.

"There could be no more principled and deserving individuals in the game than Sachin and Steve," Bradman Foundation executive director Rina Hore said.

"Were Sir Donald to still be alive I'm sure he would unhesitatingly applaud their recognition at the ground where his ambition to play Test cricket was first kindled."

India, who were defeated 4-0 in their last series here three years ago, will play four Tests against Australia this summer in Brisbane, Adelaide, Melbourne and Sydney.
