The O and M confirmed yesterday the Brownlow medallist will face its tribunal next Tuesday on the recommendation of investigator Enzo Bevacqua.
Akermanis will answer a charge of unbecoming conduct.
He could also be facing further disciplinary action from the O and M over recent comments made on radio about the competition being “rigged”, which have drawn angry responses from rival coaches Chris Kennedy and Simon Bone this season.
O and M general manager Aaron McGlynn said the radio comments would be considered by the board at its October meeting.
“We are waiting to get over the tribunal before we have that discussion,” he said.
“We want to get that process out of the way first.”
McGlynn said he personally hadn’t heard the recent comments made by Akermanis, but he and board members had been indirectly made aware of their existence.
“I am not 100 per cent sure of what was said,” he said.
“I can’t speak for the board other than to say it will be raised at a meeting.”
The O and M’s next board meeting is scheduled for October 13.
In mid-July Akermanis copped fines for slamming the tribunal’s decision to clear Wodonga’s Sam Wortmann of striking him and commenting publicly before the tribunal case.
He was fined $1000 on each count, but half of the fines were suspended until the end of next season.
O and M rules state: “In appropriate cases the general manager or operations manager may refer the infringement to the board in circumstances where it is considered that the fine in the schedule is not sufficient given the gravity of the infringement.”
AFL North East Border made the complaint against Akermanis after its employee — umpire development manager Mark Bywater — was the alleged target of repeated abuse from the Hoppers coach.
Akermanis hasn’t denied sending emails and videos, but said he was responding to a request for feedback.
