Speeds near school crossings at Brockley Street and Pearce Street roundabouts will change ahead of the final school term, with sign installation to begin this week.
Wodonga South Primary School, Wodonga Primary School and Wodonga Middle Years College are all located nearby.
The 40km/h school speed zones had previously only been implemented directly outside schools, but government changes allow for the limits to be implemented some distance away.
Member for Benambra Bill Tilley said the stretch of road was popular with students.
“People using that road will know how many children are around those two crossings,” he said.
“We see significant numbers of kids going to and from school.
“I strongly encourage our kids to make their own way to school as part of healthy exercise, but we need to make sure we keep our kids safe coming to and from school.”
The stretch of road will only operate as a 40km/h zone during school times, Mr Tilley said.
“It’s only active when kids are coming and going from school”.
The signage will be delivered in coming days and installed this week by VicRoads.
