The Albury Council has expanded its free public Wi-Fi network to more public buildings.
The Mirambeena Community Centre, Visitor Information Centre and the council’s Kiewa Street offices have also joined the network.
The roll-out continues the council’s digital strategy to install free Wi-Fi at its properties.
The Albury Library Museum has had the service since it opened five years ago.
Lavington Library logged on at its new Griffith Road building a year ago and the Albury Entertainment Centre is also plugged in.
Those enjoying QEII Square can tap into the Wi-Fi from nearby council buildings.
“It’s a marvellous thing,” Albury resident Vickie Sawatske said in the square yesterday.
“I just did all my phone updates while sitting here.”
Albury mayor Kevin Mack said access to free internet was a key when measuring the city.
“It’s good to know that in a world becoming increasingly digitised, Albury punches above its weight in keeping residents connected,” he said.
Cr Mack said there now was an expectation people could connect to the internet wherever they went.
“We have a plan to meet that expectation,” he said.
“One of the key objectives of Albury 2030 is to ensure residents are well connected — that our economy is growing.”
