About 100 members of the Oaktree End Poverty Roadtrip group formed a human hourglass in Hovell Tree Park yesterday.
Organiser Max Pfeifer said the group had been travelling across Victoria.
“The message behind the hourglass is that we’ve come halfway to ending extreme poverty,” he said.
“Since 1990 the rates of people living in extreme poverty has halved.
“We’ve come halfway and time is running out.
“It’s entirely possible we can see the end of extreme poverty in our lifetime.”
Mr Pfeifer said tax reform was a key to achieving this.
“We’re passionate about seeing an end to extreme poverty,” he said.
Oaktree members from across the country meet in Canberra today.
