POLICE are reviewing footage of a high-speed street race in Albury which has been posted online.
The video, which surfaced on Facebook yesterday morning, shows two cars racing in Wodonga Place.
The race starts with both vehicles accelerating at full speed for at least 10 seconds.
One of the vehicles appears to be a distinctive late-model Ford sedan with white stripes, and police are working to identify both drivers.
“It’s been brought to our attention,” Sen-Constable Steve Schausinger said.
“We’ll investigate and try to identify the vehicles involved.
“Apart from being stupid, they also run the risk of being involved in a crash.
“Someone could have been seriously injured or maybe even killed.”
Sen-Constable Schausinger said there was NSW street racing legislation which could be used to prosecute those involved.
Included in that legislation are penalties for people who film such incidents, he said.
“By recording it and placing it online, the images are in the public forum which we have access to,” he said.
“Rest assured, if they’re identified they will be charged.
“There are significant penalties including confiscation of their vehicles for three months and on-the-spot licence suspensions for up to six months.”
