Good morning and welcome to the opening day of trade period.
Clubs are convening at Etihad Stadium to meet today and discuss potential trades until 3pm.
Their day will begin 10am for the bidding meeting for father-son and academy players.
Trade period continues until October 16.
Collingwood's recruiting manager Derek Hine spoke about Dayne Beams and any deal with the Lions for the midfielder: "We'll work really closely with Greg Swann and Peter Schwab over the next few days to try and get it sorted."
The Pies don't have a particular player from Brisbane in mind for any deal, but do want something in addition to pick four. Hine also says the club has not met with Patrick Dangerfield
Gold Coast football manager Marcus Aschcroft says the club has spoken with out-of-contract Swans star Nick Malceski.
He confirmed the Suns have offered Malceski a three-year deal.
"Yeah, we've had some chats with he and his manager," Ashcroft said.
"We'll talk again today and hopefully we can come to some sort of agreement."
Speaking about Collingwood midfielder Beams, Ashcroft said, "we're flexible".
"We're interested to see how the talks go between Brisbane and Collingwood," he said.
Melbourne football manager Josh Mahoney has spoken about Heritier Lumumba, who has picked the Dees as his club of choice, and Mitch Clark, who wants to leave the club to move to Geelong.
Mahoney thinks deals on both players are close.
"If things go the way we plan, it won't be a long discussion (for either of those players)."
Mahoney also said "there's no discussions with [Geelong's] Travis Varcoe".
Contingents from Richmond, the Western Bulldogs, Adelaide, Port Adelaide, Geelong and West Coast all declined to comment on any possible trades.
The father-son bidding meeting will kick off trade period this morning. Emma Quayle writes that it could prove crucial to a number of mooted trade deals.

St Kilda chief operating officer Ameet Bains has spoken about trading the No.1 draft pick:
"We've had a few discussions but nothing concrete, we'll wait for today and see what comes up."
Bains says the Saints are still open to the idea, but "it would need to be something compelling".
Of Sydney's Tim Membrey, Bains said: "He's someone we've got a lot of interest in, and we're confident he'll want to come with us as well based on discussions we've had recently so we'll chat to the Swans today."
Have met with GWS' Jono O'Rourke and Kristian Jaksch, and will discuss both today with the Giants.
No comment on any trades from the Brisbane Lions, Carlton or Essendon.
Collingwood's Derek Hine also added that Collingwood is interested in North Melbourne's Levi Greenwood.
"At this point in time he hasn't decided what he wants to do, and North Melbourne are trying to retain him," Hine said.
Gold Coast's Marcus Ashcroft said that he didn't think not having a coach at the moment made it hard to talk to players.
On the process for selecting a new coach, Ashcroft said "we meet this week for our first discussions".
He said the Suns will listen to offers for ruckman Daniel Gorringe but at the moment he is a contracted player.
FATHER-SON SELECTIONS:
Melbourne has taken Billy Stretch, son of Steven, with pick 39.
The Bulldogs have picked up defender Zaine Cordy with pick 61.
Josh Clayton (Lions) and Alec Waterman (Eagles) both go to to their respective new homes with their clubs' final picks after neither attracted a bid.
Dogs only needed 4th round for Zaine Cordy. They'll be happy with that. Some thought they might have had to use 3rd or perhaps a 2nd — Michael Gleeson (@mickgleeson) October 5, 2014
DONE DEAL: Defender James Frawley is officially a Hawk. Speaking to the Hawthorn website, Frawley said it was "surreal" to be at the Hawks.
Frawley said it was a difficult decision to make but seeing someone like Brian Lake find success after leaving the Bulldogs was a big lure.
"Every player plays footy to try and win a premiership and be in a successful side and that's what I see here at Hawthorn and that's why I made the choice," Frawley said.
Frawley, 26, was selected at pick 12 in the 2006 national draft and played 139 games for Melbourne since his debut in 2007.
Hawthorn recruiting manager Graham Wright said Frawley was a great pick-up for the club.
"He is a team-orientated person who has got great character and excellent values," Wright said.
"James is a fantastic addition to our list, and will complement and enhance our defensive unit extremely well."
The official confirmation comes after the Hawks whisked a video welcoming Frawley to the club from their website after it was mistakenly published on Saturday night.
The Demons will now wait to see what compensation they get from the AFL. They are hoping for pick 3.
BREAKING: Collingwood has acquired Darcy Moore as a father-son selection at pick eight after matching a bid from the Western Bulldogs.
The Dogs offered their first round selection (pick five).
Emma Quayle describes Moore as a "tall, athletic and occasionally very high-leaping forward."
He is the son of dual Brownlow medallist and former Magpie and Demon Peter Moore.
So all 12 players have made it to the club that nominated them, which is good news. Cordy & Davis got a little further than I expected. — Emma Quayle (@emmasq) October 5, 2014

Representatives of the 18 clubs are currently meeting inside the corporate suites at Etihad Stadium in 10-minute allotments. The bell is chiming audibly every 10 or so minutes to indicate that clubs have to change stations.
It's the closest thing footy clubs get to speed-dating.
Sydney CEO Andrew Ireland spoke about the club acquiring players from its contentious youth academy. The Swans picked up Isaac Heeney woth pick 17, Jack Hiscox with pick 36 and Abaina Davis with pick 73.
"To select three players from the QBE Swans Academy is one of the most exciting developments for our club and for football in NSW," Ireland said in a statement.
"In Isaac, Jack and Abaina, we have three vastly different players who have been part of the Academy program over the last four years and will all be great additions to our team.
"Through the work of the entire Academy team including head coach Michael O'Loughlin and operations manager Chris Smith we're starting to see some terrific results from the Academy."

Lions recruiting manager, Steve Conole, spoke on the club's academy picks. The Lions picked up Harris Andrews, Liam Dawson and Josh Clayton with picks 41, 60 and 114.
"We are thrilled to have these three boys in Lions colours next year," he said in a statement.
"It is fantastic for the Hyundai Lions Academy to have another two players successfully transition onto a senior AFL list.
"Both Liam and Harris were bid upon by other Clubs with their second round picks, so that highlights how highly rated in the draft both boys were.
"All three guys have shown some promising signs over the past 12 months and Lions fans should be excited about watching them develop over the coming years."
FRAWLEY DEAL:
Hawthorn list manager Graham Wright has indicated that 26-year-old free agent James Frawley has signed on a four-year deal.
"We're absolutely rapt that James has chosen to come and play the remainder of his career at the Hawthorn footy club," he said.
Wright suggested that Frawley, who played much of 2014 as a forward at Melbourne, but would probably play back at the Hawks.
"I think he plays his best footy as a defender, so we'd think he'd play there."
Wright has also added:
- The Hawks were informed of Frawley's decision on Wednesday.
- The club still has room in its salary cap to make further moves including acquiring GWS midfielder Jono O'Rourke (who is also in the sights of St Kilda and North Melbourne) who he confirmed the club was interested in. "At this stage I don't think he's chosen where he wants to play so we haven't spoken to GWS yet."
- Despite Frawley's signature, key defender Ryan Schoenmakers was committed to staying at the club. Schoenmakers is contracted for 2015. Wright said that there had "not really" been any interest in Schoenmalkers from other clubs, nor had clubs fielded offers for fringe ruckman Luke Lowden.
Sydney-bound Isaac Heeney has attracted the highest-ever bid for a father-son or academy player after the Demons bid the second pick in the draft on him.
Emma Quayle has more.

Bains said the club "will now endeavour to get a trade done."

The clubs are starting to leave Etihad Stadium. Fremantle declined to comment.
David Noble (Adelaide head of football):
- Patrick Dangerfield is not on the table. "He's not on the table, hes' not going to be and I don't know why all the kerfuffle continues to unfold." "It's a ridiculous suggestion...he's a required player and there's no issue."
- He also said the Crows were confident of keeping Dangerfield beyond 2015. "Yeah we are. You back your system in every time. Those stars are really hard to develop, they're hard to find."
- The club could name its new coach by the weekend. "We're just in the middle of the process. We'd like to think that it's sooner rather than later, maybe the weekend."
- Wouldn't specify which rucks the club was looking at, but confirmed that ruckmen and key defenders were their areas of need.
- There had been some interest in Jarryd Lyons.
Derek Hine (Collingwood recruiting manager):
- No major inroads today made on North Melboune's Levi Greenwood

No comment from West Coast on the way out

- Also some interest in Travis Varcoe who Balme suggested would be open to moving clubs.
- On the opening day of trade period: "It's an interesting day. Everyone's a bit coy, everyone's interested in everyone's players but there's not a lot of commitments made on this day."
Essendon recruiting manager Adrian Dodoro
- Discussions ongoing with Port Adelaide but Essendon wants "apples for apples, not apples for a bag of peanuts." Essendon wants a a quality Port player. "Our view still holds firm that he's a required player with us."
- "It's up to Port Adelaide," as to whether the matter drags on.
- There was interest from other clubs in midfielder Ben Howlett but he is "a required player" likely to sign in the next 24 hours.
- There will be announcement on Dustin Fletcher's future soon.
GWS list manager Stephen Silvagni:
- Said there had been discussions around Kristian Jaksch and Jono O'Rourke but wouldn't go into detail. "Hopefully we've got something pretty close that later in the week we can resolve."
Carlton football manager Andrew McKay:
- On Kristian Jaksch: "It will be difficult, they obviously think Kristian's a very good player and want a fair bit for him. We think he's a very good player but don't want to give up too much for him."
- "There's a bit of interest in both" Mitch Robinson and Jeff Garlett. "We think we'll be able to get something done with both of them."
- Liam Jones- "We discussed Liam today with the Bulldogs today as well, I think we should be able to get something done in the next week or so."
- Fellow Bulldog Jason Tutt has also indicated his desire to become a Blue. "He's in the pipeline as well."
