He rightly suggests funds could be better used elsewhere in the state rail system — hopefully to replace rolling stock on the North East line.
Charles Sturt University professor Ian Gray described a Logic hub as “unnecessary” and nationally respected freight specialist and owner of the Ettamogah hub Col Rees has rationally presented a case against unfair and unneeded taxpayer-funded competition in this highly specialised and heavily capitalised sector of the transport industry.
Mr Rees’ most cutting line “Inefficient duplication does not lead to competitive outcomes”, (The Border Mail, October 4) seems to be wasted on the town hall entrepreneurs in Wodonga whose business performance over the past decade is, to say the least, questionable.
It all sounds like an unproven business case to me.
The Border Rail Action Group is committed to supporting viable passenger and freight rail services in the Border economy.
A Logic rail hub would contribute nothing and would threaten the sustainability of the existing unit — at the expense of local and state taxpayers.
