The spoils of Walker's grand final triumph are lost somewhere in Sydney Harbour after they were lost on a cruise. The Rabbitohs continued their premiership celebrations on the Aqua Bay, a vessel which has hosted Hollywood celebrities including Jennifer Lopez, Sandra Bullock and Cameron Diaz.

Walker dropped the ring as the cruiser was rounding Barangaroo, just across from the spot being redeveloped by the club's prospective new co-owner James Packer.

A source said the ring appeared to slip off as Walker was throwing ice into the water.

"He is absolutely devastated, he couldn't believe it happened," the source said. "He only just got to wear it and now it's gone."

Souths coach Michael Maguire told Fairfax Media: "It's a very unfortunate thing to happen."

As Walker's ring sat amid the silt at the bottom of the harbour somewhere, Adam Reynolds' ring was dry and very high.

The chunky green and gold band was hundreds of metres in the air, fitted snugly on Reynold's finger atop the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Reynolds, Maguire, and other champion Rabbitohs climbed the bridge on Thursday afternoon to hold aloft the 19kg Norman Provan and Arthur Summons Trophy, suitably tethered to the steel railing.

Bridge climbers are made to remove watches and bracelets and other loose objects before they make the ascent.  Reynolds' ring must have passed the test, as all $8000 of it was on show right at the summit.

When prompted, the halfback declined to say he was "on top of the world".

"We're pretty high up though," he said.

Too high for Kirisome Auva'a. He may have scaled the pinnacle of Australian rugby league in his rookie year with Souths but Auva'a has not lost his fear of heights.

"My legs are still shaking," Auva'a said when back on terra firma. "I tried not to look down at all."

Auva'a, who scored the match-sealing try in the grand final against the Bulldogs, said he had always had a fear of heights and the climb had done little to cure it.

"We had a camp earlier this year where we did abseiling," he said. "I went down very slowly on that."

Walker missed the climb through illness but Lote Tuqiri, John Sutton, Alex Johnston and Issac Luke were all on the parapet, while Tom and George represented the Burgess clan. People who have had an operation in the past six months are barred from climbing, which gave Sam Burgess little chance.

On Tuesday he had four metal plates inserted into his face to fix the fractured eye socket and cheekbone he sustained just six seconds into the grand final in a head clash with Bulldogs prop James Graham. Maguire said Burgess was recovering well.

"I had a call from Sam this morning and he's doing much better," he said.

Maguire felt his grand final success had now sunk in, four days after the 30-6 victory. But when it came to some of the players, he was not sure.
