Hough, 31, played for Bendigo Gold in its final year in the VFL as its playing midfield coach under former St Kilda star Austinn "Aussie" Jones.
He will be joined at the Alpine Saints by former Geelong Falcons and Werribee half back Fraser Lucas.
Lucas has spent the past two seasons at his home club Camperdown in the Hampden league.
The signings come after Myrtleford finished the season strongly and retained the bulk of its line-up, including Morris medallist Kristan Height.
Hough has strong ties to the Ovens Valley, with his first cousin Dylan Piazza making his senior debut for the Alpine Saints this year.
"After Bendigo Gold folded a lot of the kids were looking to play VFL still, but I was looking to go back to country footy," he said.
"I was born in Bright.
"It is just a good club and has got a great following and it will be good to be part of that.
"I didn't want to leave it too late to go there and play."
Hough played two seasons for Kangaroo Flat in the Bendigo league before joining Bendigo Gold.
He also played 98 games for Old Camberwell in the VAFA, including a premiership in 2007, and was runner-up in both B and C division league best and fairest awards. Hough also represented the VAFA.
He will bolster an Alpine Saints midfield already boasting Height, co-coach Brad Murray, rising star nominee Mitch Dalbosco, Christian Burgess and Nathan Cossignani.
Lucas is shaping as a handy pick-up given his exposure to TAC Cup and VFL levels, and is also a talented cricketer.
Myrtleford football manager Scott Burgess said the additions provided further impetus next year.
"It comes on top of the club re-signing its top 12 players in this year's best and fairest," he said.
"Both players are very well credentialled and importantly already have connections to MFNC.
Mitch's father is an ex-Myrtleford player and his grandfather has been a long-time supporter of the club. Fraser is friends with several Myrtleford players and attended games this year.
