The man, 92, appeared to hit the accelerator instead of the brake, causing his car to hit the side of the home.
The impact destroyed the wall, which will need to be rebuilt, and the damage bill may be as high as $100,000.
The Toyota Corolla was also written-off in the accident.

Murray Gardens Retirement Village manager Chiquita Walsh said a resident, 82, had been home at the time and was left shaken, but was otherwise uninjured.
The driver was taken to hospital with minor injuries before being released, and his male passenger was uninjured.
“They’re all fine,” Ms Walsh said.
“The lady is shaky, but she knows bricks and mortar can be rebuilt and no one was injured.
“That’s the real focus here, we want our residents safe and happy.
“We can rebuild a wall, but if a resident was hurt, that would be a tragedy.”
Builders brought in structural supports to hold up the roof yesterday as the vehicle was towed from the home.
Insurance assessors also attended the scene to view the damage.
“It’s such a tight-knit community and everyone looks after each other,” Ms Walsh said.
“I think Thursday night had the potential to be a lot worse than it was.
“But all our residents came together and help- ed each other out and helped the two men in the car.”
Ms Walsh said she expected work to repair the home to begin within a month.
The elderly lady living in the home has been staying with family members and will return to the retirement village next week to discuss accommodation options.
