The accident was not called in, but the man was found by chance when an ambulance drove past just after 5.30am.
The Toyota dual cab was 400 metres west of Lewington Road when it veered off the road.
Police believe the driver tried to correct the vehicle when he lost control, rolling several times before stopping against a tree.
The male driver in his 30s was the only person in the vehicle and was taken to Wangaratta hospital with minor injuries and underwent checks for internal and head injuries.
Sergeant Paul Pursell said police were still to confirm the identity of the man, who had already been taken to hospital when they arrived.
“He was lucky he survived judging by the damage to the car,” he said.
“The windows popped out and the roof had been crushed, so there was quite extensive damage.”
“The car was a total write off.”
