Police said three men, aged 18, 20 and 21, were sitting in a Holden Rodeo utility at the McDonald’s car park on Fox Street about 12.15am when three men approached.
One of the men was allegedly armed with a knife and threatened the group, demanding they get out of the utility and hand over the keys.
The offenders then drove the vehicle away.
The three victims, who were uninjured, waved down nearby police and reported the incident.
About 3.30am, police received a report of a group of men in a Holden Rodeo failing to pay for petrol at Gundagai.
Police stopped the utility near Yass a short time later and arrested four men who were inside.
Three of them, two aged 18 and one 19, were charged with aggravated assault with intent to take and drive a motor vehicle in company, and larceny.
A fourth man was released pending further inquiries.
