A FORMER Jerilderie man and one of Australia’s most highly regarded generals, Sir John Monash, has been included in the revamped World War I exhibition in London.

The move comes after the omission of Sir John from the newly revamped Imperial War Museum drew criticism from former deputy prime minister Tim Fischer.
Mr Fischer ran a six-year campaign backed by Alexander Downer, now high commissioner to London, and former defence minister Brendan Nelson, head of the Australian War Memorial.
Mr Fischer was happy with the victory.
“This is a long overdue breakthrough and reverses a huge error whereby John Monash of Melbourne and Jerilderie, a giant leader on the Western Front, had been ignored by the Imperial War Museum for decades,” he said.
Mr Fischer has written a book about Sir John, who was recognised as one of the finest leaders of Imperial forces by King George V himself.
The official Riverina launch of the book will be held at Jerilderie on Saturday, November 15.
