Simpson is expected to play in defence and through the midfield for the Saints who have already picked up VFL onballer Mitch Hough and former Geelong Falcons and Werribee half-back Fraser Lucas.
Coach Brad Murray said Simpson’s arrival was another boost for the club as it attempted to fight its way into the top five.
“From all reports, John does triathlons and is pretty fit sort of player,” Murray said.
“We are trying to get some depth into our midfield and he should be really handy for us.
“John didn’t play due to work commitments this year and is keen to get back playing.”
Simpson was a strong performer for Riverina league club Wagga Tigers last year and will complement the likes of Murray, Kristan Height, Dalbosco, Christian Burgess and Nathan Cossignani.

Murray said the club still had several prospective recruits in the pipeline.
“We are speaking to a couple more,” he said.
“It’s gone well so far and we’ll keep working hard trying to build the side up.”
Along with Wodonga Raiders, Myrtleford is one of the few clubs to make inroads on the recruiting front since the end of last season with most clubs working on keeping their lists together.
