The principal of Vietnam Circus and Arts Vaudeville Secondary was on the Border yesterday to inspect the Wodonga facilities.
The planning is in its initial stages but it is hoped to reach an agreement within a year.
Wodonga Senior Secondary Principal Vern Hilditch said the schools were a good match because they both incorporated education and circus training.
“I went to Vietnam in April this year and met Mr Hoang at his school,” Mr Hilditch said.
“So now he is visiting us and we are looking into an exchange program.”
“The circus is once again providing an international opportunity for our young people to see and be a part of the world.
“We are the only recognised circus school and training institute in Australia so this program will be the first of its kind.”
Vietnam Circus and Vaudevile Arts Secondary School is a highly competitive institution and the only public training and educational circus in south east Asia.
Principal Hoang Minh Khanh said many of its students have won international gold medals at circus events.
“We want to expand beyond Asia to the Western world to learn international arts and introduce traditional Vietnamese acts to the world,” Mr Hoang said.
“The best way to do this is starting with the schools.”
“I think there is a great feeling here and we have found a good combination in a school that trains and educates like we do.”
Under the plan, it is hoped that Fruit Fly trainers will go to Vietnam to teach, followed by a group of Fruit Fly students going to learn from Vietnamese trainers.
Then Vietnamese trainers and students would come to Australia.
The end goal is to have both schools put on a performance that showcases both cultures.
