The clash between St Patrick’s/Diggerville and Forrest Hill Galahs went down to the wire with Aaron Breust and Brock Dixon holding off Galahs’ Matthew Paull and Ken Wurtz in a tie-break to see SPD home by the narrowest of margins.
Alison Pigram finished with a three-set haul for Galahs.
John McVean’s dominant singles win left too much ground for Forrest Hill Cats to make up, leaving Wodonga Bushrangers victorious by four games.
McVean was supported by Graham Hawkins and Mark Neil with Rodney Wurtz and Ephraim Mitchell in fine touch for the Cats.
Marcus Busch continued his stellar season, winning his three sets for Forrest Hill Blues in their four sets to two triumph against Forrest Hill Tigers.
Graham Wurtz was best for Tigers.
In the ladies, Forrest Hill easily accounted for Wodonga with Glenly doing likewise against Thurgoona Jade.
Sacred Heart finished strongly but couldn’t mow down Thurgoona Sharks in section 2 men, with Paul Craane and Jackson Land solid for the victors.
Forrest Hill Diggers dug out a final set tie-break to clinch a 5/45 to 3/37 salute against Forrest Hill Blues.
Diggers’ Ross Graetz was the dominant player for the afternoon with Sean Pillay consistent for Blues.
An unbeaten Paul Grover was the key to Albury Gold claiming the points over Forrest Hill Hornets.
Dom Mahaffey, Cameron Scholz and Graeme Barned also contributed, with Harry MacPherson-Wood best for Hornets.
Albury Blue was untroubled against Wodonga Bulldogs.
The closest match in the ladies was Thurgoona Bronze’s 4/39 to 2/34 victory against Lavington Diamonds.
Sam Chant was undefeated for the winners while Narelle Hamilton performed well for the Diamonds.
Albury, with Helen Diffey, Marie Cribbes, Megan and Anna Kohlhagen all firing, were comfortable 5-1 victors against Uiver Park.
In the remaining match, Glenly was far too good for Thurgoona Silver.
Wodonga Pirates had the match sealed after four sets in their section three encounter against Wodonga Bears.
Craig Farrer, Chris Rokahr, Will Rattray and Charlie Burns combined well early, squeezing out two tightly contested rubbers.
In the ladies, Scots Sloths were too strong for SPD Green.
In section 4, SPD Gold broke the deadlock, claiming the final two sets and the match against Scots Dragons.
