Family members of a person facing serious charges sat through proceedings in the Wodonga Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
After the person was denied bail, a relative walked from the courtroom and smashed a glass frame holding the artwork.
Detective Ray Causer said the incident showed a total disregard for the courthouse.
“The picture frames were put together as part of a course project,” he said.
“They get permission for them to be hung inside the court.
“It’s frustrating that people have such disregard for the courthouse and think they have the right to damage community property.”
The incident was caught on security camera.
