Police and paramedics were called to a Leneva street after the woman was stabbed and raised the alarm with a person at nearby property.
Police believe the Lavington woman, 28, had been driving with the man, 56, prior to the stabbing.
The incident occurred about 11.30am and the man was arrested in the car park of the Northside Hotel Motel in Lavington about 1½ hours later.
NSW officers arrested him and Victorian police will apply for an extradition order today.
Detective Sergeant Graeme Simpfendorfer said the stabbing occurred on a dead end street.
“We responded pretty quickly along with an ambulance,” he said.
“We tracked the person down very quickly.
“He’s now assisting us with our enquiries.”
It’s unclear if there was any relationship between the victim and the offender.
The man has been charged with intentionally causing serious injury and other assault-related charges.
Det Sgt Simpfendorfer said the man would appear before Albury Local Court where Wodonga detectives will apply to bring him back to Victoria.
“They’re very serious matters,” he said.
The woman was taken to hospital after the incident in a serious but stable condition with non-life threatening injuries.
