At the start of my campaign, I made it very clear that I would advocate for the extension of the moratorium on CSG extraction in Victoria until there was conclusive scientific proof that there would be no adverse effects on the environment and, in particular, on underground water.
So far that proof is not evident.
I’m pleased to be able to point out that the Napthine Coalition government has been unequivocal in a commitment to a thorough review and consultation.
This has been demonstrated by its application of a moratorium on extraction and cautious processes.
In talking to people across the electorate, I am hearing very clearly the strong concerns of the average person about any return to the Labor government’s reckless issuing of exploration licenses without ensuring our water supply is not adversely affected.
Last month I launched a petition to ensure the government was in no doubt about our position on this issue.
This petition is available at my campaign offices at 14 Station Street, Seymour, and 122 Bridge Street, Benalla, and listening posts as I travel across the electorate.
