The proposal is due to be tabled at next month’s V/Line consumer committee meeting in Albury.
Some rail patrons may in fact be asking why such an idea hasn’t been previously considered and offered to the community for debate.
The plan would see two or three VLocity trains making up to four daily trips between Albury and Seymour.
The shuttle service would take about two hours to travel between Albury and Seymour but importantly, would be timed to link up with services to and from Melbourne.
V/Line consumer committee member Bill Traill notes the major drawback to the plan is the need for passengers to change trains at Seymour.
However, he says Seymour would be best positioned to host the service and it would better utilise the North East rail lines.
It’s an idea that is certainly worth opening for debate.
