And the clock will rewind to that era this weekend at the Tallangatta Fifties Festival.
The event, in its 15th year, celebrates “the town that moved” in 1956.
Pin-up girls and men with slicked-back hairstyles will enter the world of rock’n’roll at the town’s triangle and jive to the sounds of No Brakes, Play It Cool and Honey B and the Stingers.
Elvis Aaron Presley, formerly Daniel Holley, will lead the way.
Festival organiser Kevin Vance said, as usual, the main street would be transformed into a magical pathway back in time.
“The music and the cars are the best things,” he said.
Tallangatta’s Dieda Schwarz will experience his first festival in style, spending the year working on his 1959 Mercury to have it ready in time.
“I wanted to be able to drive my two girls and wife down,” he said.
Mr Schwarz said he was drawn to his car for the love and effort that went into shaping it.
It will appear at tomorrow show and shine.
Dancing and market stalls are the big attractions today.
Entry to the festival in the town’s triangle costs $15 for those over 18.
