The Melbourne Cup day meeting has grown to become the club’s biggest crowd-wise — only behind the Albury Gold Cup — in just five years.
About 3000 have attended the meeting for the past two years, with club chief John Miller expecting similar numbers on Tuesday.
“We have already got 1000 pre-booked in for our marquees and dining packages,” he said.
“For the first time we will also have fashions on the field on both Melbourne Cup day and Oaks day, with different categories on each day.
“Another first will be our Canadian Club Young Members Marquee for under-30s, which will have a DJ playing and also plenty of food and drink specials.”
There will be two big screens on course with live music in the beer garden between races.
Local band Infinity will also play in the beer garden after the last race at Flemington at about 5.15pm.
The club has received a total of 46 nominations for the five-race card.
Nominations for the Benchmark 50 Hcp (1600m), Class 2 Plate (1400m) and Maiden Plate (2000m) have all been extended.
Miller said having enough jockeys to support the plethora of local race meetings with Corowa, Wangaratta and Wagga also racing on the day shouldn’t be an issue.
Five jockeys have already committed to riding at Albury, with fields capped to a maximum of eight runners.
