After 12 months of travelling from Wagga to be Bryce Campbell’s right-hand man at John Foord Oval, Maiden was yesterday appointed to lead the Riverina league club.
Maiden and Campbell played in Turvey Park’s 2002 premiership team.
The appointment is a homecoming for Maiden after he played 142 senior games for Turvey Park before crossing to rival club Wagga Tigers.
“I really enjoyed what I was doing at Corowa,” Maiden said.
“I really enjoyed working with Bryce.
“It’s a fantastic level of footy every week, but in the end my family had a lot to do with the decision.”
Maiden coached Wagga Tigers in 2008 and 2009 before stepping up as the RFL’s representative coach from 2010 to 2013.
Meanwhile, Wangaratta has lured former Magpie Daniel Boyle back to Norm Minns Oval.
Boyle, who was a rookie with Port Adelaide earlier in his career, played in Hornridge’s losing grand final against Roxby Districts in South Australia’s Far North Football League this year.
Boyle was drafted to Port Adelaide at pick 31 in the 2007 rookie draft before returning to Victoria in 2009 and playing for Werribee.
He returned to play for Wangaratta in 2010 and 2011 before joining Sturt.
