Mandy Martyn yesterday screamed out during the proceedings at Wodonga Magistrates Court, which were finalised even after her mother sent a letter to the court saying she didn’t want the matter to go ahead.
Martyn had been at her mother’s home on April 8 and was “yelling at her about anything and everything”.
Leading Sen-Constable Geoff Nicholls told the court Martyn had been verbally abusing her mother, who was in remission after cancer treatment, and poked at her face.
Her mother went to push Martyn’s hand away and accidentally hit her in the mouth, which caused Martyn to punch her in the head before punching and kicking her after she fell to the ground.
When shown photos of her mother’s injuries after the incident, Martyn said “that is a good punch”.
Defence solicitor Greg Duncan told the court the couple had a “robust” relationship and “this is an example of it”.
Mr Duncan opposed court materials being released to the media and noted the case had been before court four times.
“She receives an enormous amount of attention from the press,” he said.
Martyn shouted out she did not want coverage of the matter.
“I don’t want them reporting nothing, your honour,” she said.
“It’s got jacks--- to do with anything.”
Magistrate Stella Stuthridge convicted Martyn on one count of recklessly causing serious injury and imposed a $1000 fine.
Martyn made a rude gesture as she was driven away from court and shouted at reporters.
